Create production materials (U3, P4, M3)

Learning Outcome 3 (U3): Be able to create production materials for an original product to a client brief

Justification:

Out of 100 photos I took I managed to cut it down to 30. When deciding on the final photos I was looking for good quality. The photos that were blurry I got rid of straight away which helped me decide on my final photos. I then decided what pose would suit the magazine the best which led me to 4 photos. At this point I just had to pick the best two as they were all the same. I also referred back to the client and made it original, vibrant and in a North London location.

I used a variety of tools when creating the magazine to make it original and unique.

Photos used for the final product:

I chose this image because it is good quality, bright, and  clear and fits well in the space I have left for my magazine. I used a low angle shot because it creates a sense of space. The lines on the ground create leading lines so that the model is the focal point of the picture.

I selected this picture for my front cover because it's a long shot so therefore shows the model in her entirety. This means that the clothes she is wearing will form an important code for the front cover and create anchorage and for the magazine as a whole. I chose the setting because it creates an urban feel.

I chose this picture of Ally Pally because it is quite a light low colour picture quite works well with the opacity tool to create a faded background using this picture. The low angle exaggerates the building skyline and will be recognisable to North Londoners.

I selected this photograph of the interior of Alexandra Palace because it has just had a refit and re-opened after decades of closure. This is a big talking point for the people of North London. I decided crop out the Christmas tree because it's not relevant to this time. The photograph below I selected for similar reasons. It shows the newly refurbished theatre.

Body copy:

“Ever since I was a young girl I wanted to perform all over the world.

I grew up in a small town in the countryside where music was not the hype. I have a real passion for music, however I still haven't come across my favourite genre. Growing up on a farm learning country music was an essential, however it Just wasn’t for me.

I moved to London to be able to connect to the music world and experience the busy city life. I started off performing in ‘Open Mic nights’ as it was a chance for me to boost my confidence and meet a variety of different people, whilst discovering who I am.

On June the 3rd a producer was in the bar I was performing at, he approached me saying ”wow, your amazing, get in touch!” he handed me his business card and said to call him. He was the owner of Alexandra Palace and was looking for new young talent. He invited me for a tour around Alexandra Palace and said there’s an opening spot on Saturday night if your interested. At first I was like I’m not ready for this but he convinced me and a week later I was on the stage performing at one of the most amazing places in North London.

The stage was huge, the light were bright shining directly at me. the crowd was cheering at the top of their lungs. It was incredible.

I stated off by introducing my-self and telling  my story and journey to how I got here.
I started off singing a country song as thats what I knew best and was comfortable with. It got the crowd going and made me very happy.

I then explained how I make my own remixes. I chose to connect with the audience by specking to them and sharing my experiences.

I felt sharing my experience made the environment more enjoyable and happier.

My life then changed. I have over a million followers on Instagram, I had people messaging me saying “when is your next concert?” I had producers calling me 24/7.

I was famous! And I am writing third article to empower other individuals to follow their dreams because...

“Dreams can and DO come true”

Justification:

I based my body copy on an interview of a a young girl from a small town who wants to be the next big thing. I based it on true story's. I wanted to relate to my target audience so based the girl on that age group. I started of talking about how she got into music and them moved on to talk about what happened once she made her big move. This links to the brief because they want me to make a double page spread and my article is all about a North London venue.

Codes and conventions:

I chose to use these fonts because they fitted well with my theme as well as to the brief. They were bold and big which made it more eye-catching and easy to read. I chose the helvetica font because it is a very simple font which makes it easy for the readers to read and will engage the readers. It fits in with the other font choices as it is bold and simple. This links back to the brief because it is vibrant and represents the music world within North London. I used the Lemon/Milk font for the masthead because it's a sans-serif modern typeface and is visually striking, contemporary and is a very common font used in music magazines.

I used the font 'Code' as I wanted to stick with the theme of sans-serif through the cover lines. The font strokes are thinner than the masthead, therefore they don't take away from the importance of the title. This makes them stand out but not as much as the masthead. When creating the magazine I chose 3 colours throughout the creation of the magazine. I chose black, white and red as this fits in with the codes and conventions of a magazine as they usually only consist of 3 colours. By choosing 3 colours gives it a sense of branding and makes it easily recognisable. The reason I used yellow as my puff colour was to make it a focal point so the reader can get something from the magazine as this is an eye-catching tool which is used in many magazines.

Another way I have followed the codes and conventions of a magazine is that I used 5 black stars on the front cover of the magazine which is a convention used in films and music magazines for reviews, this suggest whats going to be in the magazine and that this magazine is rated 5 stars.

I chose the background of the magazine to be a brick wall because I have chosen very urban looking locations which links to the brief as well of a vibrant setting North London setting; this is made clear by the repeated references to North London in the cover lines - Ally Pally and Camden Market.

I took a long shot picture of the artist because it fits in well with the layout of the text as well as gives the readers and idea of the type of fashion style the artist has and what clothes they like to wear. I felt this linked with the requirements of the brief because it has a vibrant, youthful feel to it.
