Plan and develop pre-production materials (U3, P3, M2)
Learning Outcome 2: Be able to plan and develop pre-production materials for an original media product to a client brief
Gantt chart:

I have produced a gantt chat which helps me to visually see the activities that will need to take place week by week in order to produce the final product.
Mood board:
The idea behind the mood board is for the audience to get a visual ideas of what to expect in the magazine. The mood board contains pictures of open mic nights as that is the focus of my magazine as well as lights to recreate an event of an artist performing in north London. I have used a range of colours to show that everyone is different and especially artists who may perform the same song in different ways. The range of lively, vibrant colours set the scene of what it's like to be at a North London concert. By not having one specific colour theme I am showing that everyone is different and nothing is set in stone.
Fonts:
I have chosen 3 fonts that I will be using in my magazine:

I have chosen this font (lemon/milk) for my sub-titles as its bold and will stand out agains my background pictures. This font has many connotations to why I chose this font is that it is simplistic and easy to read. This links to my target audience because because it stands out and can easily be spotted.
I have chosen to use 'code' font because it is bold and will stand out. I chose this font because it links well with my title font (above) as it is the same style but is a different size and not as thick. This font will be used for the master head as it has many connotations which links to my brief and fits well with the theme of the magazine.
I have chosen 'helvetica' font for the body copt, because it is easy to read and is liked by the public. It is a very common font that has been used for many magazines. It is light, clear and not to bold. it consists of straight edges which links well with my other two font choices.
Colour scheme:
Having researched a range of North London venues, the most popular colour seemed to be dark plain colours. I have incorporated some of the colours as well as add my own such as the red. I chose the red because it is a bold colour which stands out against the dark colours and gives some light to the magazine as a whole.

Forms:
Location Recce:
When taking photos for the magazine I will be using a range of different places and venues in North London. I will be visiting Alexandra Palace and will be taking photos of both the interior and exterior. I will also be using my local park and nearby street as this is very time efficient and easily accessible. By using an area which I am familiar with minimises the risks because I am know it very well.
In order to get to the location there is a variety of routes, one route is on the Jubilee line to Stanmore then the 142 bus towards Bushey WD23 area. This is an easy route if coming from London. Another route is from the Borehamwood area which is the 107 bus to Elstree station and then change onto the 306 bus towards Bushey. These are just some of the routes available.
Risk assessment:
In order to minimise the risk overall, I will ensure everyone is trained in how to avoid certain risks, what to do if a risk is discovers e.g. have a back up plan and if a hazard occurs how to treat and the necessary action to take.
Legal and ethical issues that could impact the production:
Legal issues -
Data protection:
This will impact the marketing of my magazine as well as the creation stage because I will need a lot of help and support from other people in order to finish the product. I will have multiple people working on the magazine therefore I will have information on them. In order to comply with their right of confidentiality I will have to keep all the personal/important information secure and private. If I needed to to access or use tier information I would have needed to ask permission first otherwise legal action could be taken. When hiring or asking for help with other people I will inform them on the magazine and what I will need from them, this is to make them aware of why I may need their information.
Copyright:
This will be an impact to the magazine because if there are any copyright issues that have not be found or sorted before, it can jeopardise the whole process of the magazine. For example using images without copyright permission is a problem because I don't own the rights to use them, however to avoid this issue its best to have all original content or ask for permission to use the people's photos. This means I am not breaking copyright's laws and everything is ethical.
Libel and slander:
Libel is when false statements get published. The content may be hurtful or harmful to individuals as it could not be true. To avoid using fault content I will ensure my sources are legit by doing some background research before hand. When interviewing individuals I will ensure that all information they give me they are happy for me to publish, by doing this I am reducing the risk of facing legal action and being sued.
Slander is when false information gets spoken, however, it differs from libel because this information could be said once and as it gets out it will be changed along the way making it false information. To ensure this doesn't happen I will have policies in place such as copy right protection and other company's ensuring my work is safe and suitable.
Privacy
This is all about the individuals involved in the magazine and about keeping their private details secure and away from the public eye. It also helps with the publicity of the magazine making sure it is appropriate for the public and I have all the correct information. When the magazine gets released all information must be truthful and relevant in order to meet the publics expectations. If information is unlawful or individuals information gets leaked it could result in legal action being taken. In order to ensure all information is secure I will be following the data protection act and that all information about the artist and venues are true and appropriate for the magazines content.
Ethical issues -
Racism
Racism is an ethical issue which can be very harmful to certain individuals. When creating my product I will need to ensure I avoid being racist in the magazine. Being racist is discriminating against individuals race. If the content I produce deems to be racist or harmful, legal action could be taken resulting in the magazine losing it's finding or the creates losing their job. When creating the magazine I will avoid being racist or using racist remarks in order to make the magazine more friendly and appropriate for everyone.
Sexism
Sexism is an ethical issue because it's not a law which individuals have to follow it's more of a moral law and the content of the magazine should be researched. This is an issue I will need to ensure doesn't effect the magazine. In order to avoid sexism the magazine will feature both men and women and the language used will not be sexist or hurtful in anyway. If there is sexism or sexist language being used this can effect the magazines revenue as well as it's success.
Working with children - (drugs, smoking, nudity, bar/alcohol)
When working with children under the age 18, concent forms will need to be given to the parents or guardians to sign, saying they give permission for their son/daughter to be used in the magazine and the creation of any material. This is to ensure they are happy with their name and face being used.
Young children can easily get influenced by older people as they want to be the coolest they can be. If their are pictures of adults smoking and drinking they might look up to them and want to copy them. This is a major issue because being influenced at young age is very bad for their health. This could result in parents saying they don't want their child to participate and this will effect the productions of the products.
